A comprehensive physical education program should provide students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes associated with living a long and healthy life. While also focusing on physical, social, emotional, spiritual, mental and environmental well-being, students will develop useful skills and knowledge about physical fitness. This knowledge will encourage them to stay healthy and active across their lifespan.
This curriculum is a guideline from which Catholic Physical Education teachers can provide basic instruction within the context of our Catholic faith. The goal is to teach the skills and strategies needed for students to value and achieve a lifetime of healthful fitness.
Our Aim:
• To provide a framework to assist Diocesan Physical Education teachers in their daily preparation of Physical Education instruction
• To improve the consistency of Physical Education instruction across the Diocese
• To provide a vehicle for improved communication among Physical Education teachers in the Diocese
• To enable teachers to provide a comprehensive Physical Education program.
The framework is based primarily on the National Association for Sport and Physical Education standards and the South Carolina Academic Standards of Physical Education. It can be implemented using a variety of instructional approaches. For each grade range, a heading is used to identify the standard and a numerical identifier is provided for each performance indicator.
